Physical Education

At St James the Great we believe that P.E. is an essential part of the curriculum. It provides an ideal opportunity for children to develop their personal, co-operative and social skills, as well as helping children to become, and stay, healthy and active. P. E. at St James the Great consists of gymnastics, games, athletics, outdoor activities, swimming and dance.

When children enter the school we provide activities that will help children to enjoy P. E. and develop their individual skill levels, with and without apparatus.

As children progress through the school we introduce rules and stages of achievement for them to aim at and we challenge them with different contexts to extend their PE. Children in Key Stage Two have the opportunity attend swimming lessons; learn the rudimentary skills and  knowledge about how to sail a boat and learn basic skills associated with playing golf.
